SARSAT radio beacons
The international SARSAT organisation operates a worldwide satellite system that alerts ground stations whenever a distress alert signal is transmitted by a maritime (EPIRB), avionic (ELT) or portable beacon (PLB). These radio beacons transmit a phase modulated 406MHz signal.
